Is DramaBox Free? Prices & Free Episodes (Oct 2026)

Updated

Is DramaBox free?

Only the opening of each story is. DramaBox costs nothing to install, and a typical series lets you see episodes 1 through 9 or 10 before coins or a membership come into it.

What DramaBox doesn't have is a shelf of fully free shows. Not one of the 3,052 DramaBox series in our catalog can be watched to the end without paying, earning coins or holding a membership. If a story grabs you at episode 9, budget for the rest.

How many DramaBox episodes are free?

Nine is the median, and episode 11 is where the lock turns up most often. The pattern is tight:

  • 39% of DramaBox series hit the lock at episode 10 or 11;
  • about 29% stop sooner, somewhere from episode 5 to 8;
  • 96% are locked somewhere between episode 5 and episode 14.

A median DramaBox drama has 50 episodes, so the free part is roughly the first fifth. The most generous titles stop at 26 free episodes.

Because DramaBox has no fully free series, our completely free short dramas list is the place to go if you don't mind switching apps. The 15+ free episodes collection works the same way across platforms, and DramaBox's full lineup shows the free count on every series page.

How do DramaBox coins and memberships work?

You unlock episodes with coins that you top up, or you buy a membership that opens the whole catalog. DramaBox has said as much when answering App Store reviews, describing a subscription as unlocking "all dramas on our app, not just one drama."

Confirmed on official pages, checked October 22, 2026:

  • US App Store. Apple's purchase list for the app has "Membership" items at $5.99, $17.99 and $19.99, and "Special offer" items at $4.99, $9.99 and $19.99. Apple doesn't show how long each membership runs or how many coins an offer includes.
  • Google Play. The per-item range runs from $0.49 to $299.99.
  • Auto-renewal. The App Store description says memberships renew unless you switch renewal off a full day before the period ends.
  • Coin value. In a payment disclosure it publishes for Japan, DramaBox values coins at 100 to one US dollar. We haven't found a US page that states the same rate or a per-episode coin price.
  • Refunds. DramaBox's terms say fees are non-refundable, coins work only inside DramaBox and can't be exchanged for money, and prices can differ by location.

Episode prices in coins aren't published officially, and they vary by region and over time. Look at the unlock prompt before you buy.

Legit ways to get more free DramaBox episodes

Free coins come from tasks and ads inside the app. DramaBox's App Store replies mention both, and its privacy policy gives a clearer picture of what counts: it records your check-in history, the series you follow, whether push notifications are on and how long you watch, in order to calculate rewards in its coin reward activity.

In practice that means:

  • check in daily, since check-ins feed the reward tally;
  • follow series and turn on notifications if you're fine with them;
  • watch the ads offered for coins.

Earned coins are logged separately from bought ones. You can see them under Profile, then My Wallet. DramaBox doesn't publish how many coins each of these pays, so treat any number you see elsewhere with suspicion.

DramaBox dramas with the longest free runs

None of DramaBox's series is free to the end in our data, but these five open up more than the usual nine episodes:

With Bound to the Beast, 19 episodes is nearly 40% of the show. The other four give you close to a third before the lock.
