Is GoodShort Legit? What We Checked (Oct 2026)
Is GoodShort legit?
GoodShort is a genuine app, not a scam: it's published under a named Singapore company on both official app stores, has more than 50 million Android installs and bills through the normal store checkout. The fair criticism is that free viewing is slow, not that your money disappears.
Who makes GoodShort?
SINGAPORE NEW READING TECHNOLOGY PTE. LTD. runs GoodShort. The App Store lists that company as the seller. On Google Play the developer shows up as GoodNovel, which can look odd at first, but the "About the developer" box names the same Singapore company, at Suntec Tower Three on Temasek Boulevard. GoodNovel is the brand of its reading apps, listed under the same developer.
GoodShort's terms say the platform is operated by Singapore New Reading Technology, and point to goodshort.com as its website.
Ratings in the app stores
GoodShort scored 4.9 out of 5 on the US App Store on October 22, 2026, from about 533,000 ratings, the highest App Store average among the five drama apps we follow. Google Play showed 4.7 from about 4.52 million reviews.
High averages say little about the paywall, though.
Common complaints
GoodShort's critics on both stores mostly like the stories and dislike the economics:
- watching an ad earns only a handful of coins, which doesn't go far against the price of an episode;
- the weekly subscription is the part many refuse to pay for;
- toward the end of a series, episodes feel shorter and the ads around them longer;
- several reviewers find the endings abrupt.
Unlike some rivals, GoodShort rarely answers reviews in detail. The developer reply we saw on Google Play was a short thank-you.
Is it safe to pay on GoodShort?
Paying through the App Store or Google Play is safe in the ordinary sense: the App Store description says the fee is charged to your Apple account, so the purchase runs through Apple's own checkout. The fine print is less friendly than the checkout:
- Prices. On October 22, 2026, the US App Store listed coin packs such as 500 coins for $4.99 and 1,000 coins for $9.99, plus Weekly VIP options from $5.99 to $19.99.
- Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. The terms allow weekly, monthly or yearly plans.
- Refunds. Payments are non-refundable except where the terms say otherwise, and there are no partial refunds if you cancel mid-cycle.
- Coins. They have no cash value and can't be refunded, transferred or swapped for money.
- Backup cards. If the main payment method on your account is declined, the terms let GoodShort charge any other method you've connected.
Privacy labels: Apple says identifiers may be used to track you across other companies' apps and websites. Google Play's data safety section says the app may share personal and financial info, among other types, with third parties, encrypts data in transit and accepts deletion requests.
How to stay safe
Install GoodShort from the App Store or Google Play only. Pages offering "GoodShort coin generators" or hacked APKs aren't connected to the company, and the terms make coins usable only inside GoodShort anyway. The same goes for full episodes re-uploaded to video sites.
Before paying, check how far a story goes for free. The lock on GoodShort most often lands at episode 12 in our data.
